Live Chart Trading Setup and Order Entry
Trade directly from the TradingPlace live chart without switching windows. The chart at /portal/chart.html combines the full TradingPlace indicator stack with a dedicated chart trader panel — so the read, the entry, and position management all happen in the same view.
What is the Live Chart?
The live chart is a dedicated full-screen view designed around price action. Where the main cockpit is account-centric — managing multiple accounts, symbols, and signals from one dashboard — the chart is chart-centric: you read the market on one continuous screen and execute from that same context.
The two views use the same live accounts and the same execution infrastructure. Trades placed from the chart appear in the cockpit, and the cockpit's risk controls (daily limits, trailing stops, news protection) remain active regardless of which view you're using.
Chart Layout
The live chart workspace is organized into a header and a main panel area:
| Area | What it contains |
|---|---|
| Header | Symbol selector (MES / MNQ / MGC), indicator on/off toggles, trade panel toggle, trade log button |
| Main execution chart | 1-second candles with the full indicator stack. This is your primary read and your entry timing chart. |
| Right-side context panels | 5m, 15m, and 30m timeframe panels give broader structure context without leaving the view |
| Market Tide panel | Optional panel showing directional flow. Can be toggled from the header. |
| Chart trader panel | Order entry, SL/TP controls, and active position state anchored to chart context. Can be hidden when you only want to read. |
Indicators
The header provides two groups of toggleable indicator layers. All indicators are available for every chart root — each shows context for the symbol currently selected.
Base layer group
Core structure and session indicators shown across all chart panels:
Depth layer group
Additional depth and context indicators shown on the main execution chart:
All indicators are toggleable from the header controls. You can show exactly what you need for a given setup and hide the rest.
Chart Trader Panel
The chart trader panel sits inside the chart view and gives you order entry and position management without opening a separate interface. It shows:
- Active position state — current position direction, size, and unrealized P&L, anchored to the chart price axis
- SL/TP controls — adjust stop and target directly from the panel while the chart stays front and center
- Order entry — market, limit, and bracket orders using the same execution infrastructure as the main cockpit
The panel can be hidden when you want a clean chart-only read. Toggle it from the header or press the panel toggle button.
Trade Log
The trade log shows completed trades from the current session. Open it from the header without leaving the chart. It gives you a running record of what you've done — entries, exits, P&L — while the live chart remains visible.
Switching Chart Roots
Switch between MES, MNQ, and MGC from the header without reloading the page. All indicator layers are available for every root — each shows context for the currently selected symbol.
For multi-symbol management — trading and monitoring different instruments simultaneously across multiple accounts — the main cockpit is still the right tool. The chart is optimized for single-symbol focus.
Accessing the Live Chart
- Log in to your TradingPlace portal
- Navigate to
/portal/chart.htmldirectly, or use the Chart link in the portal user menu - Select your chart root (MES, MNQ, or MGC) from the header
- Enable the indicator layers you want from the header toggle buttons
- Use the chart trader panel to enter, manage, and exit positions
Risk Controls Remain Active
All risk automation you've configured for your accounts applies regardless of whether you enter trades from the chart or the cockpit:
- Daily loss limits — enforced across the session, including chart-entered trades
- Trailing stops — trigger based on P&L regardless of entry source
- News protection — blocks new orders around scheduled news events
- Market close protection — flattens positions at the configured close time
The chart does not bypass any safety layer. The same risk infrastructure that protects cockpit trades protects chart trades.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which plan includes live chart trading?
Live chart trading is a Platinum feature. Crystal, Bronze, Silver, and Gold plans do not include access to /portal/chart.html. See the pricing page for the full breakdown.
Is the chart different from the main cockpit?
Yes. The cockpit is account-centric — you manage multiple accounts, symbols, and signals from one dashboard. The chart is chart-centric: a dedicated full-screen view for reading price action and executing from indicator context. Both connect to the same accounts and use the same execution infrastructure.
Can I trade multiple symbols from the chart?
The chart is focused on one symbol at a time. You can switch roots without leaving the view, but for simultaneously managing multiple symbols across multiple accounts, the main cockpit is the better fit.
Do keyboard shortcuts work on the chart?
Yes — the same keyboard shortcuts available in the cockpit also work in the chart view.
Does trading from the chart affect my cockpit state?
Yes. Trades placed from the chart use your live accounts. Position state, P&L, and order history are shared between the chart and the cockpit because they reflect the same underlying accounts.
Can I use live chart trading for playback practice?
The chart view has playback support. When a playback practice stream is active, the chart switches to the historical feed — giving you the same indicator read you'd have on a live day, but against practice-session data. See Playback Practice for details on the practice stream schedule.
